I have found that the keto diet can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. You can count everything and be precise with your macros or you can just learn what foods you can and cannot eat while understanding the fundamentals of the keto diet, and you'll be fine! Let's start with the basic rules of Keto, these are not guidelines, these are rules to make your keto journey successful!
Net carbs - Under 20g per day

This means consuming no more than 20g of carbs per day, this is different from total carbs because some carbs do not get absorbed by the body, namely fiber and some artificial sweeteners.

Most of your calories must be from fat!
While some concern themselves over the carb count you must also remember that too much protein can kick you out of ketosis, this is because your body starts turning protein into glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis.

This was definitely one thing I overlooked during my first foray into the keto diet, sodium, potassium and magnesium are essential to feeling well on the keto diet. Tips include having beef/chicken broths, adding extra good quality salts to your food, lots of avocado and cauliflower for potassium and magnesium.
